Causes of Anxiety Attacks to Beat Your Attacks
Causes of anxiety attacks can be traced back to a variety of factors – from psychodynamic, genetic to behavioral
and mental origins. Of course the underlying causes are further aggravated by stress levels experienced by the
patient both from the internal and external environment. The threshold level up to which one can bear stress varies
from one person to the next. When someone is living through stressful conditions for an extended period of time,
which has crossed his own threshold levels, there are enough causes for anxiety attacks.
Causes of anxiety attacks, at the psychodynamic level are related to various internal conflicts which have been
deep-seated for years on end. These could be related to situations, smells, foods and even people. These factors
act as triggers for starting a memory chain, which in turn results in the fear of not being able to meet with
expectations, fear of rejection, and more.
Sometimes the causes of anxiety attacks can be purely behavioral where all past experiences can be stored in the
mind as a benchmark of all future incidents. For instance, a mother who lost her child for a brief period of time
in an amusement park may for a long time harbor the fear of loss of the child again, every time the child is out of
her sight. Even when the future situations related to her child may be drastically better and safe she can imagine
the worse and suffer an anxiety attack when the child is not in close vicinity.
Causes of attacks could also be because of spiritual reasons. Many times people feel lost and lonely, depressed
and dejected for no apparent reason and constant brooding about imaginary things may also result in anxiety
attacks.
Then there are genetic factors which could well be causes of anxiety. Some research has concluded that 50% of
all those who experience anxiety attacks have someone in the family who also suffer from similar conditions. If you
look at the biological causes of anxiety attacks it could be down to the malfunctioning of certain brain chemicals
like serotonin, norepinephrine, and GABA which are considered to be closely related anxiety attacks.
Medical causes of anxiety attacks include heart ailment, tumors, hormonal disorders, nerve diseases and
infections. Anxiety and panic attacks could also be related to the side effects of some
drugs.
If you have had one anxiety attack, it is best to consult your doctor who is the best judge to find its actual
root and offer you treatment accordingly.
